Abstract

Focused ultrasound with microbubbles is emerging as an effective means to solve the important medical need for non-invasive, targeted drug delivery to the brain with the potential for significant patient benefits versus surgical drug delivery. Clinical economics favor intermittent versus regular, repeated treatments that gene therapy can provide and FUS also promotes intracellular delivery of gene therapy. The team proposes to develop a novel microbubble drug conjugate with an adeno-associated virus to deliver gene therapy to the brain regions affected by Parkinson's Disease
