Abstract

Chronic Venous Insufficiency is one of the major pathologies in the world, affecting 20% of the industrialized country population. Current medical procedures for varicose vein treatment aiming at the obliteration of the affected veins, such as sclerotherapy, and endovenous thermal ablation, are currently recommended over to ligation and stripping. This project will demonstrate that echo-guided HIFU technology to obliterate large veins such as the saphenous, perforator and tributary veins is a superior non-invasive alternative to current endovenous and sclerotherapy treatments, with the key differentiator of avoiding any insertion of catheter or foam injection in opposition to endovenous and sclerotherapy methods, while requiring no local anesthesia.
