Abstract

Focused ultrasound (FUS) ablation, including High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) and histotripsy, has shown significant promise for treating liver cancer. Here, we optimize histotripsy for treating hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), liver metastases (LM), and cholangiocarcinoma (CC) tumors. In addition, we will develop a dual- modality strategy combining HIFU with histotripsy for treating CC tumors, which pose a unique challenge due to their higher mechanical strength and location near critical structures such as bile ducts. Overall, this study will establish optimal FUS parameters for treating various liver tumors, which is essential to the development of FUS for the treatment of liver cancer.
