Lockharts Honor Son by Funding Fellowship

At the behest of Gene and Terry Lockhart, the Focused Ultrasound Foundation has established the Andrew J. Lockhart Fellowship for focused ultrasound research into solid tumors to honor their son Andrew who passed away in September 2016 after a hard-fought battle with cancer at the age of 39.

Andrew J. LockhartThe Fellowship will enable research on the use of focused ultrasound to treat a variety of tumors including those in the brain, breast, prostate, liver, pancreas, and lung and provides an important opportunity for donors to honor Andrew.

The Foundation has already received more than 75 gifts to the Fellowship from all over the world. This outpouring illustrates the impact Andrew had on those he knew and also the vast network of people who want to show their support for the Lockhart family.

Andrew, who received an economics degree and law degree from the University of Virginia, lived with his wife Ashley and their first daughter Maclaren in London before returning to Richmond. With the help of his medical team, Andrew was able to participate in the birth and baptism of his newborn daughter Cecily shortly before he passed away. The Lockharts are long-time supporters of the Foundation. We are deeply sorry for their loss and grateful that their tribute to Andrew will support research that has the potential to help many patients afflicted with cancer.
