Neuropathic pain is a fairly common condition, affecting an estimated 7-10% of the population.

As we announced last October, Dheeraj Gandhi, MBBS, is leading a clinical trial using focused ultrasound to treat neuropathic pain at the University of Maryland Medical Center. A recent article in the Baltimore Sun includes interviews with two of the first patients in the study, video from the treatment site, and comments from the medical team and Foundation Chairman, Neal F. Kassell, MD. For those who suffer from neuropathic pain, it can be quite debilitating – taking both a physical and psychological toll, as current treatments usually do not control the pain that can present almost anywhere in the body from the head down to the toes.
