WSSFN’s 2023 Interim Meeting was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from November 16–18. With more than 500 attendees, the occasion marked the first time that a WSSFN meeting was held in the Middle East region. According the WSSFN newsletter,* most participants came from UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, and India, but many also came from all over the world.

Vibhor Krishna, MD, and Jin Woo Chang, MD, PhD, (a past president of WSSFN) presented the focused ultrasound topics at the meeting. Dr. Chang discussed applications for essential tremor, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, BBB opening for Alzheimer’s disease and tumors, and the role of skull. Dr. Krishna discussed focused ultrasound for essential tremor, Parkinson’s disease, and technique optimization.

“It was a great meeting that was very well put together,” said Dr. Krishna. “Our focused ultrasound talks were well received, and the discussion period included much interest with many questions.”

The meeting featured 217 abstracts, plenary sessions, and three smart rooms for hands-on reviews and sessions. Scientific work was highlighted on a digital e-poster platform. The modern exhibition area allowed interaction between participants and exhibitors for exploring novel technologies and therapies. A networking dinner brought all faculty members and participants together in one place, and the attendees enjoyed a traditional UAE dance performance.

The XX World Congress of Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery will be held in Chicago September 3–6, 2024.

The Foundation thanks Vibhor Krisna, MD, for assistance in preparing this meeting report. *The WSSFN newsletter was also used as a primary source for this story.
